Barcelona manager Hansi Flick made it clear he’s in no rush to rethink his future despite reports earlier this week that the club is preparing to offer him a one-year extension to his current contract, which ends in 2027.
Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, the coach reiterated how happy he is to work at Barça and that he feels very comfortable in his relationship with president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco, but made it clear he still has 18 months left in his deal and will wait patiently before discussing his next steps.
“A year and a half is a long time for a coach. I’m very happy to be working at this club, with Deco and all the staff. My staff is fantastic, Deco is incredible, and I have a great relationship with him. I’m here because of the president, and it’s important to have his confidence. For me, another year and a half is fine, but it also matters to me whether the president is still here. If we play well and are successful, that’s important.”
It’s very clear from Flick’s words that the results of next year’s presidential elections will have a massive impact on his decision to stay beyond his current deal, and the German is also experienced enough to understand the ever-changing nature of football and how the results will help decide his future as well.
